A Final Note on Dental Pain
“Do not stand idly by while your neighbor bleeds.” –Leviticus 19:16
“One is not called noble who harms living beings. By not harming living beings one is called noble.” –Gautama Buddha, from the Dhammapada, Verse 270
“No one should abandon duties because he sees defects in them. Every action, every activity is surrounded by defects as a fire is surrounded by smoke.” –Bhagavad Gita
Thus we are charged. By every major religion–all place duties to our fellow beings upon us.
I want to end my Manual by saying if you are in dental or facial pain and are within reasonable geographic range of our office as you read this, please reach out. Pain always indicates something is wrong, and the sooner it’s treated, the better. By this I mean physical pain or esthetic pain. If you can’t smile because something is wrong in your mouth, that’s a serious matter too.
If you are in severe dental pain, within reasonable range of our office, and you have serious concerns over cost of treatment–call us anyway. We will work with you. Let’s meet you, relieve your pain, and then sit down and figure out how to proceed to bring you back to good oral health in some affordable manner. There’s always a way.
Until we get to have that conversation, your duty is to stop suffering, and our duty is to not stand idly by.
